| The Microsoft Windows XP Upgrade |
|
|
We may soon have to say goodbye to Windows 98 because Microsoft may
soon stop offering support for the 98 version of its software. Many
people are hanging on to Windows 98 because it is familiar to them and
it works well.
However, there will come a time for you to move on and
go for the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade. You don’t have to worry
because Windows XP is full of great features. You won’t miss your old
operating system after just a few days of using Windows XP.
I decided to do my Microsoft Windows XP upgrade by myself. However, this can be a little risky if you don’t know a lot about computers. It was not difficult to use the upgrade, but I did experience a few problems that I did not anticipate.
One of the unexpected problems was that Windows XP was not compatible with some of the older software on my computer. The Microsoft Windows XP upgrade disc will scan your system for such problems if you put it into your computer. The disc warned me that it was not compatible with Adobe PhotoDeluxe, and that I might have to upgrade.
I found that Adobe PhotoDeluxe did need an upgrade after I completed the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade. I downloaded a patch and update from Adobe’s website. My PhotoDeluxe generally worked well after the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade, but I can still experience a few occasional problems.
You should be prepared to delete or upgrade some of your older software when you choose the XP upgrade. The installation of Windows XP went rather well after I took care of the software problem.
One of the benefits of having Windows XP is that it gives me a better clue as to what is going on with my computer. It will also warn me if my virtual memory becomes low. This happens often because I have an old computer.
I never received these warnings when I had Windows 98. My computer would usually just crash when my virtual memory becomes low. With windows XP, everything becomes normal after I restart when I get the warning.
I recommend that you should buy the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed. However, you should be careful of where you buy it because used upgrades are being sold on online sites like eBay. This is not a problem as long as original owners do not have it running on their computer any more.
Some people who tried to install and register used upgrades, discover that it is registered and in use by someone else. The new upgrade is useless when this happens so it is safer to buy a new one.
